Black Country, New Road For The First Time Album Review

Black Country, New Road For The First Time Album Review

Rating: 8/10

Favourite Tracks: Science Fair, Track X,  Instrumental

Least Favourite Track: Sunglasses

As I am officially back on reviewing albums on my blog, The first album of this year that I will be reviewing is by a British band called 'Black Country, New Road' with their debut album 'For The First Time'

Black Country, New Road are a highly anticipated band from London formed in 2018 which consists of 7 members, Issac Wood on vocals and guitar, Tyler Hyde on bass, Lewis Evans on saxophone, Georgia Ellery on violin, May Kershaw on keyboards, Charlie Wayne on drums, and Luke Mark on guitar. They have been the most talked band of 2021 so far, I came across with them this year when I heard some of their singles such as Track X, Science Fair, which grabbed my attention, When I heard these singles I thought it was black Midi as Issacs's vocals sounds like the same vocals as the guy from Black Midi, This band has been called as another Black Midi which makes it interesting as I am a fan of Black Midi, Discussing more about the album this album has just been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2021, I was so delighted that it was nominated well deserved I enjoyed this album I would love to see this album win the prize, I can understand why this album has received a lot of praise, I enjoyed it and this will definitely be up there on my favourite albums of the year list.

The opening track "Instrumental" starts off with a heavy drum kick and builds up with great bass and some beautiful Saxophone sounds, This is very jazzy good opening track, The next track "Athens, France" which shows Issac vocals in the first 40 seconds of the track I love how in the 2 minutes of the track it starts to go down it sounded like a downtempo track I was expecting more upbeat like instrumental but other than the track is decent, The next track "Science Fair" has a great bass sound in the beginning of the track, I love Isaac's vocals on this track, The guitar playing on this track is amazing, I really enjoyed how the violins came in the middle of the track. Isaac's vocals is amazing, The track "Sunglasses" is probably my least favourite I think the track should have started a bit earlier than leaving a big gap, However it does have some good Saxophone sounds. The next track "Track X" which is the first track that I discovered from them I first heard this on BBC Radio 6 Music and I really liked this track it's calming and smoothing, I loved the backing vocals from Georgia on this one, The final track "Opus" starts off with a guitar solo and then comes the violins with Issac's vocals I like the ending of the track it ends well it's a decent track a good ending to the album.

Overall I liked this album it is definitely in my favourite albums of the year list I am going to give this album an 8/10.

Least Favourite Track: Hurry
Teyana Taylor KTSE Cover Art.jpg

On this review I will be reviewing the new Teyana Taylor album which was released on the 22nd June 2018. It's the second studio album by Teyana Taylor called "K.T.S.E".

Teyana Taylor is an American recording artist, actress, dancer, and a model from Harlem. Who released her new album this year. An 8 track album as part of Kanye's summer album series. Since Kanye West produced this album and artists like Nas, Pusha T. And of course his eighth studio album 'ye'. And his duo with Kid Cudi 'Kids Sees Ghost' album which I will review that another time. Teyana was signed to a record deal with Pharrell Williams Star Trak Entertainment. She made her first appearance on MTV My's Super Sweet 16. Back in 2012 she was signed to Kanye's record label 'Good Music'. Teyana has worked and written with other artists like Usher, Chris Brown, and Omarion. She has her own reality TV show on VH1 'Teyana And Iman'. alongside her husband NBA player Iman Shumpert. Teyana Taylor influences are 'Lauryn Hill', 'Stevie Wonder', 'Janet Jackson' and 'Michael Jackson'. Teyana has released two albums. Her debut album "VII". which was released back in 2014 4 years ago. Which I thought was a decent debut album and some decent collaboration from Chris Brown, and Pusha T. Which now bring us to her new album "K.T.S.E" which stands for "Keep That Same Energy". 4 years later she is back with her new album.

Before I tell you what I think of her album let's go through track by track on what I thought of each tracks on the album. The opening track "No Manners" which is a short track I liked the violins intro on the first track. I like the backing male vocalist on this track. Teyana vocals were alright on this track it's repetitive. The second track "Gonna Love Me" beautiful vocals from Teyana. Beautiful love song. Fantastic bass on this track. The third track "Issues/Hold On" which I thought was decent track it sounds like Kanye brining back the 2005 era of his production on this track. Her vocals were decent. The fourth track "Hurry" which I thought was decent collaboration with Teyana and Kanye. Just not to keen on this track I didn't really like the moaning sounds on that track I thought it was very weird. The fifth track "3Way" Not to keen on it as well it's not that bad. The sixth track "Rose In Harlem" great track her vocals are amazing definteley one of the strongest on the album. The seventh track "Never Would Have Made It" another good track that I liked its well produced I love her vocals on this one. The last track "WTP" Didn't really like much of the production her vocals were alright. My favourite tracks are "Gonna Love Me", "Rose In Harlem", "Never Would Have Made It". My least favourite track is "Hurry". After hearing her new album what did I think of it? I thought it was alright it's okay it would been better if the album was much more longer more than 8 tracks. She does have a great voice. It's an okay album. Still an okay album

Overall I thought this album was okay. I would listen to it again. I am giving the album a 6/10.

God's Favorite Customer.jpg

On this review I will be reviewing the new Father John Misty album which was released on the 1st June 2018. 3 months ago. It's the fourth studio album by Father John Misty called "God's Favourite Customer".

Father John Misty also known as Josh Tillman is a singer, songwriter from Rockville Maryland. Who I have been fan of for quite some time. Since his 2015 album was released "I Love You, Honeybear" I became a fan of his music. It's my favourite Father John Misty album. "I Love, You Honeybear" is a masterpiece of an album such a brilliant album. Josh Tillman is also known as a former member of 'Fleet Foxes'. Discussing more about his career he moved to Seattle when he was 21 where he got a job working as a bakery. Which allowed him to record at night before his early morning shift 4:30 am. He eventually made a demo which found it's way to Seattle singer, songwriter 'Damien Jurado'. A year later he was the opening act for Jurado. In 2012 he released his debut album "Fear Fun" under his new moniker "Father John Misty" he has released albums with other names like "J. Tillman". He is widely more known as 'Father John Misty' and more widely known as the drummer for the 'Fleet Foxes'. Discussing about his discography he has released four studio albums. His debut album "Fear Fun" which is a great debut album. I liked his debut it's a strong Indie Folk, Indie Rock album. His second studio album "I Love You, Honeybear" My favourite Father John Misty album I love it. His third album "Pure Comedy" which is an amazing album it was in my Top 20 Best albums Of 2017 list. "Pure Comedy" is my second favourite Father John Misty album. A year later he releases his fourth studio album "God's Favourite Customer". After hearing his new album what did I think of it? I thought it was a good album. It's a good album but I much prefer "Pure Comedy".

Let's go through track by track on the album on what I thought of every tracks. The opening track "Hangout At The Gallows" which I thought was a great opening track to the album. His vocals really does sound a young Elton John. I love the guitars on this track.  The next track "Mr  Tillman" I thought it was this kind of mid 80s rock vibe which I thought was alright. I love the whistling part on the track. The next track "Just Dumb Enough To Try" it's decent it really does remind of Elton John. The fourth track "Date Night" which is my least favourite I think it's the weakest on the album. "Please Don't Die" which I thought one of the strongest tracks on the album. "The Palace" I love the piano melody on this track it's really calmful. "Disappointing Diamonds Are The Rarest Of Them All" It's a decent track. "God's Favourite Customer" another decent track which I thought was alright. "The Songwriter" quite a sad piano melody quite a smooth low track. "We're Only People (And There's Not Much Anyone Can Do About That)" it's decent I quite like the drums on this track his lyrics are interesting. My favourite tracks overall are "Hangout At The Gallows", "Mr. Tillman", "Please Don't Die", "The Palace", and "Disappointing Diamonds Are The Rarest Of Them All". My least favourite is "Date Night".

Overall I liked this new Father John Misty album but I much prefer "Pure Comedy". I would listen to it again. I am giving the album a 7/10.

The Proclaimers Angry Cyclist Album Review

Favourite Tracks: Streets Of Edinburgh, You Make Me Happy, Information
Least Favourite Track: Stretch

On this review I will be reviewing the new Proclaimers album which was released on 10th August last month. It's their eleventh studio album by 'The Proclaimers' called "Angry Cyclist".

The Proclaimers are a Scottish folk, rock duo of two twin identical brothers 'Charlie Reid', and 'Craig Reid'. They are best known for their hit "I'm Gonna Be(500 Miles)", "Sunshine On Leith", "I'm On My Way", and "Letter From America". Their singing style with a strong Scottish accent. The pair came to public when an Inverness based fan sent their demo to an English band called "The Housemartins" who liked them and invited 'The Proclaimers' on their UK tour. They appeared on a Channel 4 music show called 'The Tube'. I am not a big fan of them I only like two of their songs "Im Gonna Be (500 Miles)" and "I'm On My Way" From the 80s/90s they have released good songs. The Proclaimers first US television debut was on the David Letterman show where they performed "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)". Discussing about their discography they have released eleven studio albums. I have only heard few of their albums not all of them. They have released albums like "This Is The Story", "Sunshine On Leith" which is one of the albums I have heard. I thought it was a good album defintley their best album. "Hit The Highway" another one of the albums I have heard from them I think it's okay it's not better than "Sunshine On Leith". They have released other albums like "Persevere", "Like Comedy" and many more. 3 years later they are back with their eleventh studio album "Angry Cyclist". After hearing "Angry Cyclist" what did I think of it? Im just not to keen on this album if I'm being honest. I just think it's bland it kind of sounds the same if i'm being honest. I just think it's bland and uninteresting. But the track "Streets Of Edinburgh" is defintley the best track on the album. But this album is just bland. Their previous albums from late 80s/90s are much better.

My favourite tracks on the album starting with "Streets Of Edinburgh" which I thought was a brilliant track on the album. Fantastic track good lyrics great guitars. "You Make Me Happy" which is a decent produced track it's not that bad. And "Information" Which is a mediocre track not a strong track but it's still one of my favourites. My least favourite track "Stretch" I just think it's bland boring this track.

Overall the album was a disappointment. It was a let down. I do not see myself listening to this album again. I am giving the album a 4/10.

Morrissey Vauxhall And I Album Review

Morrissey Vauxhall And I Album Review

Favourite Tracks: Now My Heart Is Full, Hold On to Your Friends, The Lazy Sunbathers
Least Favourite Track: Billy Budd

On this review I will be reviewing Morrissey's fourth studio album "Vauxhall And I".

Morrissey aka Steven Patrick Morrissey aka Moz. is a singer, songwriter. Who everybody should know him as the lead singer of 'The Smiths'. For those that may not know I am not a huge Morrissey fan but I do like 'The Smiths'. The Smiths have released good songs like "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now", "What Difference Does It Make" (My personal favourite), "This Charming Man", "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One" (My 2nd favourite) And many more. I have never really listened much to Morrissey's discography but I have heard and reviewed his classic debut album 'Viva Hate'. I thought it was a good album since it was my first time listening to it. Majority of the fans regard 'Viva Hate' as his best album. However I heard his recent album released last year "Low In High School" which I thought was a mediocre album. I wasn't too keen on it. The album recieved a lot of negative reviews. It was not Morrissey's best album. Discussing about his fourth album that I heard "Vauxhall And I". I thought it was a good album. But however I much prefer his classic debut album "Viva Hate". From his debut album I like the tracks such as "Suedehead", "Everyday Is Like Sunday", "Late Night, Maudlin Street". The track "Margaret On The Guillotine" which was about during the time where Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister. It was about Margaret being on a guillotine since she recieved a lot of hate during her time as Prime Minister. Discussing more about "Vauxhall And I" I guess it's a great alternative rock album. But I would say 'Viva Hate' is better in my opinion.

Moving on to my favourite tracks on the album starting with "Now My Heart Is Full" I thought it was a great track I love how the track starts it kind of has that 80s rock vibe. "Hold On To Your Friends" quite an interesting track I would say it's my personal favourite on the album it's well produced. I love the guitars on this track. "The Lazy Sunbathers" I like the guitars on this track. Very interesting lyrics on this track it's okay I guess. My least favourite track is "Billy Budd" it's not a bad track just not my favourite on the album but it's still a decent track.

Overall I thought this was a good Morrissey album but I prefer his debut album. 8/10.

Gabrielle Under My Skin Album Review
Rating: 8/10
Favourite Tracks: Under My Skin, Show Me, Every Step, Stronger, Put Up A Fight, Breathe
Least Favourite Track: Young And Crazy
Gabrielle Under My Skin Cover.jpg

On this review I will be reviewing the new album from 'Gabrielle' which was released last month on the 17th August 2018. It's the comeback album it's the sixth studio album by 'Gabrielle' called "Under My Skin".

Gabrielle is an English singer, songwriter who I have been a fan of since her 1993 single "Dreams". I am so glad that she is back after 11 years since her last album was released. Wow I can't believe it's been that long. I am so happy she is back. The first album I ever bought from Gabrielle was "Rise" her third studio album which is my favourite 'Gabrielle' album. Gabrielle is a talented singer which defined the early 90s music. It's really an exciting year to see her back making music. Gabrielle has won several awards such as 2 Brit Awards for Best British Breakthrough and Best British Female. She has also won an Ivor Novello for Outstanding Song Collection. She truly deserved to win those awards. She is a great artist who has been making music since the 90s. It's just fantastic to see 'Gabrielle' back. She's really talented she has a beautiful voice. Discussing more about Gabrielle in 1993 she released her debut single "Dreams". The single reached number 1 in the UK chart which was number for 3 weeks. In the Bilboard Hot 100 it entered at number 26 and at number one on the Bilboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Discussing about her discography she has released six studio albums. Her debut album "Find Your Way" a fantastic R&B album. A strong R&B debut album I love it. Her second studio album "Gabrielle" which is self-titled. another great album it was more Pop and R&B together. Her third album "Rise" my favourite 'Gabrielle' album such a great album defintley her best album. So many great singles on that album "Sunshine", "When A Woman", "Rise" and many more. Her fourth album "Play To Win" it's an alright album not my favourite album but it's alright. Her fifth studio album "Always" which is a good album quite an underrated album in my opinion. Which now brings us to her new album "Under My Skin" 11 years later I can't believe it's been this long. After hearing her new album what did I think of it? I am amazed how she came back after 11 years. It's a fantastic beautiful album. She still sounds the same it's just great she still makes music. She delivers a beautiful smooth R&B album on this one.

My favourite tracks on the album are starting with "Under My Skin", a beautiful smooth voice that Gabrielle delivers on this track. "Show Me" beautiful vocals I am glad it was released as a single it's so beautiful. "Every Step" defintley her underrated track on the album. Her vocals are so beautiful makes you want to relax. "Stronger" defintley my overall favourite on the album it's really good I love the backing vocals on this track. "Put Up A Fight" quite has this rock pop vibe which I think is a decent track. "Breathe" Another underrated track such a beautiful track. My least favourite track is "Young And Crazy" not to keen on this track but it's not that bad just not my favourite.

Overall a brilliant comeback. It's great to see Gabrielle back.Great album. I would listen to it again. I am giving this album an 8/10.
