On this review I will be reviewing the new Jon Hopkins album which was released on the 4th May 2018. It's the fifth studio album by Jon Hopkins called "Singularity".
Jon Hopkins is an English producer and musician who makes and performs electronic music. He started his career by playing keyboard for Imogen Heap. He has also produced and contributed albums by Brian Eno, Coldplay, David Holmes and many more. He has composed soundtrack to the film "Monsters" which lead a nomination for an Ivor Novello Awards. for Best Original Score. Hopkins was born in 1979 in Kingston Upon Thames in Surrey. He first became aware of electronic music after hearing early house music on the radio at a young age. He became a fan of 'Depeche Mode', and 'Pet Shop Boys'. Since he was growing up he was listening to Acid House, Hardcore Grunge at the time. When he was 14 he got his first computer an 'Amiga 500' which then he started programming MIDI material. By the age of 15 he saved up a lot of money from winning piano competitions he decided to buy a professional low-level Roland Synth. where he began creating his first full length electronic compositions. Discussing more about his collaborations. He collaborated with Brian Eno. Which then lead to Brian Eno releasing an album. The album was called "Small Craft On A Milk Sea" which I thought was a great collaboration album. Discussing about Jon Hopkins discography he has released five studio albums. His debut album "Opalescent" which was released in 2001 is a fantastic solid debut album with electronic and ambient together. His second studio album "Contact Note" released back in 2004 which was a decent album not my favourite from him but it's alright. Those first two albums were released with Just Music record label. His third studio album "Insides" which he released it on another record label 'Domino Records'. His third album "Insides" was released in 2009 he delivers a solid ambient pop album which I liked. His fourth studio album "Immunity" which is an excellent album. It's my favourite album from Jon Hopkins. It was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2013. It included IDM, Tech House, Microhouse, Ambient. Which now brings us to his fifth studio album "Singularity" after hearing his new album what did I think of it? Another excellent album from Jon. This album is amazing. Defintley an album of the year contender. It will defintley make it into my Top 20 Best Albums Of 2018. I loved how it has beautiful piano melodys. It's a magnificent album. Another masterpiece from Mr Hopkins. It's an excellent album I strongly recommend to listen to his albums if you are interested in relaxing ambient music.
My favourite tracks on the album starting with "Singularity" I thought it was a decent track. I love the startup and the buildup on the first track. "Emerald Rush" I love the electronic drum pads on this track I thought it was cool It's catchy it's awesome. "Everything Connected" It's this kind of funky deep hard house vibe which I find very interesting. "C O S M" a relaxing calmful peaceful ambient music with really interesting sounds. "Echo Dissolve" a beautiful piano melody which makes me want to cry which is kind of sad piano song. "Recovery" another beautiful piano melody which I enjoyed and I thought was a good track. My least favourite track was "Neon Pattern Drum" it's alright it's not that bad. It's still sounds good but not my favourite.
Overall I loved this album. I think it's a fantastic album another masterpiece from Jon Hopkins. I would listen to it again. I am giving this album a 9/10.
