It has been a great year for music. I have enjoyed listening to different genres of albums which was released this year. I now countdown my Top 20 Best Albums Of 2017 in my opinion.
20) Laura Marling Semper Femina
We start of at number 20 "Laura Marling Semper Femina". I enjoyed listening to this 'Folk' album it is defintley one of the best folk albums of 2017. Laura has a smoothing voice with some smoothing lyrics to it. I enjoyed the tracks "Soothing", "Don't Pass Me By", "Wild Once". This is a must listen album for all the 'Folk' listeners.
19) J Hus Common Sense
At number 19 it's a highly successful album "J Hus Common Sense". This is a great album with mixtures of different genres to 'Jazz', 'Grime', 'Afrobeat' and many more. I loved tracks such as "Did You See", "Closed Doors", "Fisherman" and many more. It's such a great album. J Hus is one of the strongest acts in the game right now. I would definitely recommend to listen to this album if you love 'Grime'/'Jazz'/'Afrobeat'.
18) St.Vincent Masseduction
At number 18 it's St. Vincent Masseduction. This is a great album which I personally prefer her new album than her 'Self-Titled' which was released back in 2014. 3 Years later she comes back with a masterpiece. There are some beautiful ballads on this album such as 'Happy Birthday Johnny", "New York", "Young Lover". It's a mixture of 'Synth-Pop', 'New Wave', 'Ambient Rock', and 'Electro Pop'. There was one track on the album which sounded like it was from the 80s. Very interesting album.
17) Reggie N Bollie Uncommon Favours
At number 17 we have the Afro-Beat duo from Ghana. 'Reggie N Bollie'. I thought it was about time we had an Afro-Beat album this year. Since it's one of the genres that deserves more attention. I thought this album was fantastic. This album was well produced. This is more of a party album to get all prepared for dancing with some banging Afro-Beat tunes. I enjoyed the tracks "Good Vibes", "On The Floor", "Toast N Party" and many more. Definitely a great album. One of my favourite Afro-Beat albums right now.
16) Father John Misty Pure Comedy
At number 16 it's 'Josh Tillman' aka 'Father John Misty'. He is back with his third album "Pure Comedy". This album is fantastic. Some would say that this isn't his best album which I agree but it is still a decent 'folk' album. Josh's vocals is a mixture of 'Billy Joel to 'Elton John'. My favourite Father John Misty album is his second studio album called "I Love You HoneyBear". Some would say that "Pure Comedy" is a boring album to listen to. Which on the other hand it isn't.
15) Bjork Utopia
At number 15 it's one of my favourite female artists 'Bjork'. She is back after 2 years since the release of her eighth studio album "Vulnicura". She is back with an interesting album. Which I thought was a beautiful album with great production produced by 'Arca'. This is officially my second favourite 'Bjork' album. I really enjoyed 'Bjork' playing the flute in some tracks on this album.
14) Dizzee Rascal Raskit
At number 14 it's one of my favourite artists I have been a fan since I was 9 years old it's 'Dizzee Rascal'. He is back with his sixth studio album called "Raskit". His last album "The Fifth" was a huge disappointment since I did not really like it. It was more of a pop main-stream album. When I found out that 'Dizzee' was going to come back I was excited to see what he was going to come up with. Since hearing this album I was really pleased that 'Dizzee' finally managed to make a 'Grime' album.
13) Lorde Melodrama
At number 13 we have another great album from a talented young artist from 'New Zealand'. 'Lorde' returns with her second album called "Melodrama". This is a fantastic album. Lorde is back with a powerful successful album. There are some great tracks on this album such as "Green Light", "Homemade Dynamite", "Perfect Places" and many more. I prefer this album than her 2013 debut "Pure Heroine".
12) Haim Something To Tell You
At number 12 we have a great Indie girl band from 'Los Angeles' They are a trio band consists of three sisters 'Este Haim', 'Alana Haim' and 'Danielle Haim'. I have been a fan of the trio since their debut album was released back in 2013 "Days Are Gone" which I thought was a pretty solid debut album. 4 years later they are back with their second album "Something To Tell You" I really loved this album I thought it was better than their debut. It has a mixture of 90s rock and a bit of 70s rock.
11) Stormzy Gang Signs & Prayer
At number 11 it's "Stormzy" debut album "Gang Signs & Prayer". This is a fantastic debut album with great tracks such as 'Blinded By Your Grace Pt1 Pt 2', 'Return Of The Rucksack',
'First Things First' 'Cigarettes & Cush' and many more. This is an album with mixture of 'Grime', and 'Gospel'. This is a great album definitely one of the biggest albums in the 'Grime' scene. This is a masterpiece and will always be remembered in the next few years.
10) Ed Sheeran Divide
At number 10 we have one of the biggest albums of the year in the pop music industry. It is Ed's third album "Divide Despite this is Ed's second best album. I personally think "X" is better than "Divide". "Divide" had some great chart topping hits such as "Perfect", "Shape Of You", "Castle On The Hill", "Galway Girl" and many more. Definitely worth the listen for all the Ed Sheeran fans. Really great Pop ballads.
9) Loyle Carner Yesterday's Gone
At number 9 it's 'Loyle Carner' debut album "Yesterday's Gone". This album has elements of old school 'Hip Hop' which in my opinion the old 'Hip Hop' was great in the good old days. 'Loyle Carner' demonstrates how old school hip hop should sound in 2017. I enjoyed on how the tracks has meaning to family and love. Really good album. 'Loyle Carner' is one of the best MC's in the game right now.
8) Wilkinson Hypnotic
At number 8 we have 'Wilkinson' second album "Hypnotic". As a huge fan of the genre 'Drum N Bass' I was glad that 'Wilkinson' made another great album. Since I really enjoyed his debut album "Lazers Not Included" which was released back in 2013. In the album "Hypnotic" I enjoyed collaborations from great artists such as 'Matt Willis', 'Wretch 32' 'Boy Matthews', and many more. This is an underrated album which deserves more praise in the 'Drum N Bass' industry.
7) LCD Soundsystem American Dream
At number 7 it's my second favourite band who have made a 6 year comeback with their brilliant album "American Dream". 'LCD Soundsystem' have been criticised for not being too good in the music scene . Which in my opinion those who criticise them are bunch of dickheads. 'LCD Soundsystem' fourth studio album "American Dream" is a brilliant comeback with mixture of Synth-pop, and a bit of 'David Bowie' influence with bit of 70's rock. The song "Tonite"is one of my favourites on the album. It really demonstrates 80's Synth-pop making a comeback to the scene.
6) Goldie The Journey Man
At number 6 we have the legend himself the 'Drum N Bass' Godfather 'Goldie'. Returns after a long wait for a new project to be released. This album is fantastic mixture of 'Drum N Bass', 'Brazilian Jazz'and a bit of 'Piano instrumental'. I love the tracks "I Think Of You", "Tomorrow's Not Today","Horizons" and many more. This is the album that is definitely worth the listen if you've been of 'Goldie' for long time or if your a new fan.
5) Sza Ctrl
At number 5 it's one of the most talked about artists in the music scene right now. 'Sza'. She released her debut album "Ctrl". One of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. 'Sza' voice is so beautiful when she sings. Really proud of how big she has now become. She deserves it. I really love the collaboration that she done with 'Kendrick Lamar' "Doves In The Wind" such a fantastic track.
4) Lana Del Rey Lust For Life
At number 4 we have one of my favourite female artists 'Lana Del Rey' she returns with a much better album than "Ultra Violence". 'Lana Del Rey' voice is so powerful and beautiful at the same time. It sounds like she's from the 50's with her style. I enjoyed "Lust For Life" it's a great album. My favourite song on the album is a song called "Tomorrow Never Came" featuring 'Sean Lennon'. It's such a beautiful underrated song.
3) Jamiroquai Automaton
At number 3 it's my favourite band 'Jamiroquai' as they return with their eighth studio album "Automaton". I have been fan of Jamiroquai since I was a little kid. 'Jason Kay' (also known as Jay Kay the lead singer of Jamiroquai) is my idol. I have all of the 'Jamiroquai' Albums I often listen to it everyday when I put on the albums on my CD player. It has been 7 years since they released "Rock Dust Light Star" which I thought was an okay album. Since finding out that they were going to release the new album this year I was excited. Since hearing "Automaton" it's better than "Rock Dust Light Star". "Automaton" has more of a dance influence more of "Daft Punk" type. My favourite tracks on the album were "Hot Property", "Vitamin", "Something About You", "Carla" and many more. Such a great album I would definitely recommend to listen to it even if you do not know who 'Jamiroquai' are.
2) Kendrick Lamar Damn
At number 2 we have one of my favourite current rappers right now 'Kendrick Lamar'. He returns with his fourth album "Damn". Despite this album is not better than "To Pimp A Butterfly" which we all know that "To Pimp A Butterfly" is a classic and one of Kendrick's best album. I really like the production on this album it was well produced. I enjoyed the collaboration on some of the tracks on the album 'U2', 'Rihanna', and many more. My favourite track on the album is "Fear" I loved how the track is well produced. Such a great album.
1) Sampha Process
And finally at number 1 the best album of 2017 is 'Sampha' "Process", I enjoyed this album a lot. This is quite an emotional album. The track "No One Knows Me Like The Piano" is a smooth pop ballad dedicated to his mother. It's an emotional track. This is 'Sampha' debut album and it shows that this is one of the strongest debut albums in the "R&B" industry. Sampha produced a fantastic album. I am so proud that he won the mercury prize for best album in the UK. He is a fantastic song writer/Vocalist/Producer. This is a must listen album if your big fan of "R&B".
